NFPA Compliance Testing

Unlike the ATEX/IECEx intrinsic safety standard, NFPA compliance is in a higher class of its own as a compliance standard developed specifically for firefighters.

The NFPA 1982-2018 Edition Standard for PASS/DSU devices is a product design standard. It is critical to understand that as well as being a product design standard, NFPA 1982 is also an operational standard that defines how the product is used by the firefighter. Also, NFPA1982 is a product performance standard that defines how well the PASS/DSU is required to perform within a firefighting environment.

Below is a partial list of the performance requirements that Grace PASS/DSU Alarms must meet in order to receive the NFPA compliance product label. Testing is performed by Intertek, a certified testing laboratory appointed by NFPA. NFPA compliance requires UL913 intrinsic safety certification.
